Murray State women's golfers Ashley Kelbough, who will be a senior in the coming season, and Christi Baron, who will be a sophomore, were named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-Scholar Team, according to a release issued by the NGCA on Wednesday.
The honor is the second straight for Kelbough, who earned a perfect 4.0 grade-point average (GPA) for the 2003-04 school year.
The two were among 197 Division I women's golfers named to the prestigious honor. To qualify for the team, golfers must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50 on a 4.0-scale and have competed in two-thirds of her team's rounds.
The only other golfer from the Ohio Valley Conference named to the academic honor this year was Shanelle Howell of Jacksonville State.
Kelbough and Baron each earned Dean's List honors in both the Fall 2003 and Spring 2004 semesters. They were part of a Lady Racer golf team that had a 3.28 GPA for the school year, marking a 3.31 GPA in Spring 2004 and a 3.26 in Fall 2003.
"I am very proud of Ashley and Christi," said MSU women's golf head coach Velvet Milkman. "They are both very deserving. This proves they both work very hard in the classroom and on the golf course. They have a hard work ethic."
Murray State has had a representative on the NGCA All-American Scholar Team in every year since 1998. Previous Lady Racer honorees include Jessica Widman (1998-2000), Megan Rees (2001, 2002), Kristen Margherio (2002) and Kelbough (2003).
