Murray State football players did some hard hitting during the summer semester, hitting the books and not only passing, but scoring well, as 65 percent of those in class crossed the goal line with A or B averages.
Five of the Racers shut out the competition, scoring perfect 4.0 grade-point averages that semester. Those claiming 4.0's weresenior offensive lineman Justin Ard (Benton, Ky./Marshall County HS), junior defensive lineman Doug Fashaw (Deerfield Beach, Fla./Deerfield HS), senior cornerback Laroni Gallishaw (Lakeland, Fla./Lakeland HS), junior running back Ron Lane (Bradenton, Fla./Bayshore HS) and sophomore linebacker Dante Woods (Clarksville, Tenn./Northwest HS).
"We are very proud of these kids," said MSU head coach Joe Pannunzio. "They work hard, and they show a lot of character on and off the field. I am very proud of them."
