Defense dominates first scrimmage

The Racer football team held the first of two planned scrimmages this afternoon at the MSU intramural field, and the defense was the star of the show.
"Defensively, when you hold the offense to one score over 60 plays, that's a united effort," said head coach Joe Pannunzio.
"This was a typical first scrimmage. We had six or seven penalties, and obviously, that's way too many. We can't do that. Sometimes, when you lose a little momentum early, it's hard to get it back. It's going to take a lot of work, and we need to take the time to gel.
"It was a great effort for our kids," he said. "We're getting better, but today, we made too many mistakes."
Murray State will have its second pre-season scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 21, at the MSU intramural field between 16th Street and Waldrop Drive. There will be a pre-scrimmage practice at 2:30 p.m., followed by the scrimmage at 3:30 p.m. The public is invited.
