Orazine places second at 77-golfer UA/Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate

Senior Nikki Orazine shot a 2-under-par 70 to place second with a two-round total of 145 at the UA/Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate, played at the par-72, 5,924-yard Ol' Colony Golf Complex at Tuscaloosa, Ala. She finished just two strokes behind titlist Megan George of host Alabama in the 77-golfer meet.
Orazine was tied for third place after the first round yesterday (Monday) with a 3-over 75, just one shot behind George and two shots behind Beth Irwin of Mississippi State, who had a round-best of 73.
Orazine turned it around today, firing a 2-under-par 70. George shot a 69 in today's round, while Irwin had a 73 and finished third. Amanda Mathis of Mississippi State fired a meet-best 68 in the second round and finished tied for fourth.
Senior Santie Koch tied for 26th with a 159, while junior April Steenbergen tied for 38th with a 161, sophomore Camilla Loeveid tied for 41st with a 162 and sophomore Christi Baron tied for 48th with a 164.
Freshman Ilka Loubser, golfing as an individual, tied for 26th with a 159.
Murray State finished fifth in the 14-team tournament with a two-round total of 624, just five shots behind fourth-place Mississippi and nine strokes behind third-place Alabama. Tulane won the meet with a 596, shooting back-to-back rounds of 298.
Murray State will next compete at the Wildcat Invitational on Oct. 1-3 at Lexington, Ky.
