Craft fires 1-over-par 217 to lead Racers at Buffalo Rock

Sophomore Michael Craft fired back-to-back rounds of 1-under-par 71 and finished with a third-round 75 to lead the Murray State men's golf team with a 1-over 217 at the Buffalo Rock/Southern Showdown, held at the par-72, 7,046-yard Bent Brook Golf Course in McCalla, Ala.
Craft finished tied for 15th place in the 80-golfer meet, just seven shots behind titlist Bryce Ledford of Tennessee-Chattanooga.
Junior Jamie Frazier tied for 30th with a three-round total of 221, while junior Kyle Shirley and sophomore Nicholas Griffen tied for 42nd with a 225 and junior Will Cox tied for 49th with a 226. Junior Jay Cooper golfed as an individual and tied for 36th with a 224.
Frazier and Cox each had rounds with a 1-under 71, while Shirley finished out with an even-par 72.
Murray State finished in seventh place at the 12-team tournament with a team score of 880. The Racers played consistently, with a 292-295-293 round-by-round score. MSU finished just one shot behind sixth-place Jackson State, two behind fifth-place Tennessee-Martin and 12 behind fourth-place Troy.
Murray State will next compete at the Murray State Invitational on Oct. 4-5 at the Frances E. Miller Memorial Golf Course.
