Pannunzio gets contract extension

Murray State head football coach Joe Pannunzio received a contract extension today which will take him through the 2005 season.

"This contract extension gives our program some stability and should move us forward in recruiting quality student-athletes that will represent Murray State University both on and off the field," Pannunzio said.

Pannunzio, in his fifth season with the Racers, joined rare company when he led the Racers to the 2002 Ohio Valley Conference championship. He is only the fifth MSU coach among 14 to win the league title. Other MSU coaches to win the OVC championship are Fred Faurot (1948, 1950, 1951), Mike Gottfried (1979), Frank Beamer (1986) and Houston Nutt (1995, 1996).

The Racers open OVC play Saturday at 6 p.m. when they host Tennessee Tech at Roy Stewart Stadium. It's Family Weekend at MSU and Murray-Calloway County Hospital Day. All kids eighth grade and under get in free.
