Students from Murray Preschool Head Start toured the Murray State football facilities at Roy Stewart Stadium on Wednesday. Head coach Joe Pannunzio met with the children briefly to tell about his job and introduce the players.
"It's always great to interact with even the youngest of our Racer fans," said Pannunzio.
Quarterback Adam Fisher, along with Dustin Hughes, Marcus White, Grey Blake and Ronald Samuel, took a moment to spend some time with the students.
The players took the children on a tour of the weight room, where Hughes showed off his bench-pressing capabilities. The students were shown the training room, where the players go for injuries. Fisher showed the students the locker room where he tried on his gear. The students asked questions and learned how the football equipment protects the players during a game.
Then, the students were off to the football field. Fisher and Hughes showed them some real fun when they got to run onto the football field like the players.
The afternoon group was lead by White, Blake and Samuel. The students were also shown the football facilities, and the players demonstrated some football plays on the field. The children got in a huddle to ask questions and take pictures with the players. Students passed around a football and got to feel what is like to be an MSU football player.
This experience will be one these kids will never forget. "Not only is this a memorable experience for the students, it also builds character for the football players," Pannunzio said.
Students were given posters for their classrooms, and each child was given a take-home flier in support of "Take a Kid to the Game Day," set for Saturday's home game. All kids eighth grade and under will receive free admission to see the Racers face off against Tennessee Tech. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
