Krista Llewellyn Selected OVC Player of the Week, 2nd Straight Racer To Receive Weekly Honor
10/18/2005 5:00:00 AM | Women's Soccer
In the Racers' only game last week, Llewellyn scored two goals on three shots to lead Murray State to a 3-1 win against Tennessee-Martin. The win extended MSU's school record winning streak to five and kept the Racers in the hunt for the 2005 Ohio Valley Conference Championship.
Llewellyn scored the tying goal against the Skyhawks in the first period and then scored the game-winner in the second period.
"She played great against Martin," said Murray State Head Coach Mike Minielli. "The tying goal came so quickly after Martin took the lead, it really stabilized us. Both goals were timely and put Martin back on their heels."
Llewellyn now leads the team and ranks second in the OVC with seven goals.
Llewellyn's selection marks the seventh time in the program's six year history a Murray State soccer player has received the honor. Brooke Lencki was the first in 2000 and Theresa Reedy was named player of the week four times from 2001 to 2004. Clay was the sixth Racer honoree a week ago.
"Krista and Rebekah are both playing well right now," Minielli said. "If a team concentrates on stopping one of them then the other can hurt you."
The Racers will close out the conference portion of their schedule this weekend. MSU will host Southeast Missouri State University on Saturday. The game at Cuthin Field on the Murray State campus will begin at 3:00 p.m., and will be broadcasted live on WRKY 1130AM. Radio coverage will begin at 2:50 p.m. The Redhawks are 9-4-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the OVC.
On Sunday MSU will host Eastern Illinois, the winner of the last four OVC Tournaments. EIU currently sits atop the conference standings. The match will begin at 1:00 p.m., and will be broadcasted live on WNBS 1340AM.
