The two teams were tied for first after the first round this morning at 273, and WIU shot another 273 in the second round to finish at 546, while MSU fired a 275 for a two-round total of 548, 20 under par.
Tennessee Tech is in third place at 564, followed by Murray State Gold at 572, Eastern Illinois at 574, Tennessee-Martin Blue 578, Lewis 579, Tennessee-Martin and Indianapolis tied at 582, Northern Iowa at 583, Morehead State at 587, Chicago State at 589 and Tennessee State at 600.
The highlight of the day came on the first shot of the tournament. Just after the horn sounded the "shotgun" start for the first round, Blake Hibben of Northern Iowa shot a hole-in-one on Hole No. 9. The feat is believed to be the first in intercollegiate play -- men's or women's -- at Miller Memorial Golf Course since it opened in 1983.
Individually, Kyle Shirley leads the Racers in a tie for third with an 8-under-par 134, shooting twin 67's on the day. Shirley is just three shots behind co-leaders Scott Stallings of Tennessee Tech and Ryan McClintock of Western Illinois, who each have scores of 131.
Nicholas Griffin is tied for seventh in the 69-golfer tournament with a 138, while Michael Craft is tied for ninth at 139. Will Cox is tied for 13th at 141, while Jamie Frazier is tied for 21st at 144.
For MSU Gold, Jay Cooper is in sixth place at 137, while Mitchell Moore is tied for 13th at 141. Josh Burks is tied for 33rd at 147, while Kyle Landrum is tied for 39th at 148 and Jerry Price is tied for 47th at 150.
The final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow (Tuesday) at Miller Memorial Golf Course.
