Racers place second out of 18 teams at Mission Inn Collegiate Classic

The Murray State men's golf team saved its best golf for the final round today, firing a 4-under-par 279, placing second at the 18-team Mission Inn Collegiate Classic, played at the par-71, 6,814-yard El Campeon-Mission Inn Golf Course in Howie-in-the-Hills, Fla.

The Racers finished five shot behind Jacksonville State, which surged ahead today with an 11-under 272, while yesterday's leader, Old Dominion, shot a final-round 288.

Murray State finished with a 287-284-279 = 850, 2-under par. JSU had an 845, while Old Dominion was third at 856.

Individually for Murray State, Michael Craft placed second in the 89-golfer meet with a 71-69-67 = 207, or 6-under par, just two shots behind titlist Julian Colmenares of Jacksonville State.

Kyle Shirley tied for 19th with a 72-71-71 = 214, while Jamie Frazier tied for 22nd with a 74-73-68 = 215. Will Cox tied for 32nd with a 72-73-73 = 218, while Nick Griffin tied for 44th with a 72-72-78 = 221.

Murray State will next compete at the Missouri State/Rivercut Invitational, played on Oct. 17-18 at Springfield, Mo.
