Gorey scores in 5000 meters at SIU McDonald's Invitational

Sophomore John Gorey placed eighth in the 5,000-meter (3.1-mile) run with a time of 16 minutes, 30.32 seconds in the SIU McDonald's Invitational, held Feb. 4-5 in Carbondale, Ill.
Gorey's result was the only scoring result for the Racers in the meet. Host Southern Illinois won the meet with 98 points.
"Things went pretty well," said first-year coach Dereck Chavis. "Some of our people are showing improvement. I think, at this point, that we are showing consistent progress, and hope that things will pan out at the OVC Championships."

Murray State will next compete on Saturday at the MTSU Valentine Invitational at Murfreesboro, Tenn.
