The Murray State Racers men's golf team took home the first place trophy in Tuesday's final round at the 10-team North/South Intercollegiate, hosted by Butler University.
The 36-hole event was played on the Jacksonville (Fla.) Beach Golf Club.
Michael Craft, a sophomore from Paducah, Ky., fired his career-low round Monday in the opener when he finished with a 6-under 66, posting seven birdies and one bogey.
He followed that up with a 2-under 70 in the second round, good for a 136 total and a five-shot win over teammate Jamie Frazier, a junior from Glasgow, Ky. Frazier shot a 1-over 73 in the first round and finished with a 142 total after a second-round 3-under 69.
Kyle Shirley, a junior from Fountain Run, Ky., finished fourth with a total score of 142 with rounds of 73 and 69.
Will Cox, also from Paducah, finished 12th with rounds of 72 and 77 with a total of 149.
The Racers claimed their third tournament title over the last two seasons, including their 14th top-5 finish.
In the team totals, the Racers' 568 was set up by an opening round of 280, which was 8-under par.
They followed that up with an even-par round of 288 in the second round in windy and wet conditions to win the event by 10 shots over second-place Jacksonville, who had a 578.
Bethune-Cookman finished in third with a 580, Valdosta State fourth with a 590 and host Butler ws fifth with a 618.
Racer head coach Eddie Hunt was encouraged with his team that has a win in their first of three Spring Break tournaments on this trip.
"We played well, and you can't say enough about Michael Craft. He shot a great first round, and with a couple of breaks, could've shot even lower," Hunt said. "This next tournament hosted by Marshall will see us play some teams we've never seen before, like Yale and Rhode Island. I'm looking forward to our team experiencing that."
The Racers continue their trip with a 54-hole event in Ocala, Fla. The El Diablo Intercollegiate, hosted by Marshall, begins Saturday and finishes Sunday.
Then, the Racers travel east to Gadsden, Ala., for the Grub Mart Tournament hosted by Jacksonville State at Silver Lakes Golf Club, a course that is part of the famed Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. The 54-hole event begins Monday.
