(March 31, 2005) -- Three Murray State Thoroughbreds visited South Marshall Middle School today as part of a bonus for students who met special reading requirements.
The students at SMMS received points based on the number of books they read, and those who accumulated a certain number of points were allowed to meet with the players as a reward for their hard work.
Senior Dustin Hennigar and freshmen Micah Dunn and Michael Serraglio talked to students in the gymnasium about a variety of things, stressing the importance of studying to be successful. The players also talked about their experiences at Murray State and the value of having strong time management skills in order to balance the needs of athletics and academics.
The students were allowed to ask the players questions, which ranged from the favorite spot they had visited with the team to how they fit a girlfriend into their schedules. Students were also very interested in finding out the players' favorite books and authors. The special meeting ended with every student in attendance receiving a Murray State baseball poster and an autograph session.
The 'Breds resume Ohio Valley Conference action on Saturday, when they travel to Charleston, Ill., to face the Eastern Illinois Panthers. Murray State's next home game is on April 9, when it plays a doubleheader against Eastern Kentucky.
