On a cool spring day at Murray State's Roy Stewart Stadium, Jimmy St. Louis toed the line thinking the next five seconds could determine his future in football.
The whistle sounded and St. Louis a former Racer tightend was off and running and hit the tape in 4.57 seconds, one of the fastest times for tight ends in this seasons National Football League tryouts.
"I knew today was the day", St. Louis said. "I've worked hard at getting a shot in the NFL and today was a big day and I turned in a good time, I'm very excited."
St. Louis, (6-5 260) from Cullman, Ala.was among those Racers getting the chance to show the scouts their abilities.
Other Racers who performed for the NFL scouts were, Marcus White ( 6-5 280) an all-Ohio Valley Conference defensive lineman from Theodore, Ala., and LaRoni Gallishaw (6-0 190) a cornerback from Lakeland, Fla.
Racers head coach Joe Pannunzio says that if a player has talent, the NFL will find them. "Walter Payton was a 1-AA player from Jackson State and he was found by the NFL, so if our guys work hard, their dream of playing in the NFL might come true."
Each player is put through a battery of drills including the 225-pound bench press, in which the player tries to perform as many repetitions as possible.
Other tests are, the shuttle run, vertical jump and standing long jump.
The NFL holds it's annual college draft April 22nd and 23rd.
