Lady Racers lead by 10 strokes after first round of Big River Classic

The Murray State women's golf team leads the big River Telephone Lady Racer Classic by 10 strokes after the first round this afternoon at the par-72, 6,017-yard Miller Memorial Golf Course. The final round will be played tomorrow (Tuesday).
Murray State finished the first 18 holes with a team score of 318, 10 shots ahead of second-place Kentucky. Rend Lake is close behind UK at 330, followed by Dayton at 349, Austin Peay at 352, Tennessee State and IUPUI tied at 369, Saint Louis at 374 and Butler at 378.
The Lady Racers had three golfers among the top five, as senior Nikki Orazine was tied for second in the 50-golfer meet at 76, senior Santie Koch was fourth at 77 and junior April Steenbergen, golfing as an individual, was fifth at 78.
Junior Ilka Loubser was tied for sixth at 81, while sophomore Christi Baron was tied for 12th at 84, sophomore Camilla Loveid was tied for 20th at 87, sophomore Lauren Hughes was tied for 26th at 90 and sophomore Jena Lancaster was tied for 32nd at 91.
Surtia Risseeuw of Rend Lake leads the field with a 75.
The tournament was able to dodge storms sweeping through the area, as the rain began just as the final players were coming off of the course. The weather for the final round is expected to be clear, but colder, with temperatures barely reaching 40 degrees, compared to the 60-degree readings from today.
