Racers place seventh at Belmont Invitational

The Murray State men's golf team rallied in the third and final round of the Belmont Invitational with a third-round 289, the third-best score in the round, to place seventh in the 16-team tournament, held at the par-71, 6,759-yard Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.
The Racers finished just eight shots behind third-place Morehead State and Southeast Missouri State. Missouri -- which shot a 19-under-par 265 in the first round, won the meet with a three-round score of 824, 35 strokes ahead of second-place Tennessee Tech.
Junior Kyle Shirley tied for 15th in the 85-golfer meet with a three-round score of 218. Junior Will Cox tied for 27th with a 219, while junior Jamie Frazier tied for 32nd with a 220, sophomore Michael Craft tied for 37th with a 221 and freshman Jerry Price finished with a 226.
Murray State pushed past tournament host Belmont, beating the Bruins by one shot. The Racers finished four shots behind fifth-place Troy and Tennessee State.
Murray State will next compete on April 11-12 in the Saint Louis Invitational, to be held in Madison, Ill.
