Three members of the Murray State women's golf team -- Ilka Loubser, Christi Baron and Camilla Loeveid -- were named to the 2004-05 National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team, according to a release issued by the NGCA this afternoon.
Loubser -- a finance major from Pretoria, South Africa, who was a junior during the 2004-05 season -- averaged 80.78 per round over 23 rounds, scoring a season-low 74 at the Great Smokies Women's Collegiate, and beating out 72 percent of her competition. She tied for sixth at the Big River Telephone Classic and placed seventh twice last season.
Baron -- a nutrition major from Louisville, Ky., who was a sophomore during the 2004-05 season -- averaged 84.17 per round over 23 rounds, shooting a season-low 79 three times, tying for 11th at the Big River Telephone Classic. The honor is the second for Baron, who earn NGCA All-American Scholar last season.
Loeveid -- a finance major from Oslo, Norway, who was a sophomore during the 2004-05 season -- averaged 83.14 per round over 21 rounds, scoring a season-low of 70 at the Draper Valley Women's Invitational, where she placed second.
The honors are the 10th, 11th and 12th for Murray State since 1998. Baron is the fourth Lady Racer to earn the honor more than once; Jessica Widman earned the honor three times (1998-2000).
A total of 199 NCAA Division I women's golfers were named to the All-American Scholar Team. The criteria for selection to the honor are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics, with a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 and the requirement to have competed in at least 66 percent of the school's regularly-scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
Shanelle Howell of Jacksonville State is the only other golfer from the Ohio Valley Conference to earn the honor.
