Murray State graduate Nikki Orazine became the first professional women's golfer from MSU on Wednesday, finishing in second place in her first professional tournament, the Fifth Third Bank Kentucky Women's Open.
The tournament took place at the London Country Club.
The two-time Ohio Valley Conference Golfer of the Year kept pace with champion Meghan Little in the final round, hitting an even-par 71, but had shot a 73 in the first round to Little's 70. Orazine finished with a 2-over-par 144, just three shots behind Little's 141.
"I played really solid today," Orazine said, "and can't really complain. There were at least four makeable birdies. This is my first tournament as a pro, so I really can't be too mad about it."
Orazine's next pro challenge will be at the Tennessee WOmen's Open, July 26-27 at the Bear Trace at Cumberland Mountain in Crossville.
Former teammate Santie Koch also golfed in the tournament as an amateur, placing tied for 27th at 161. Incoming freshman Bethany Yates also golfer in the tournament as an amateur, tying for 38th with a 170.
Yates, Christi Baron and Lauren Hughes are all taking part in the Marion Miley Invitational in Lexington, Ky., this weekend.
