9/25/2005 5:00:00 AM | Women's Soccer
Six minutes into the second half, Tennessee Tech brought the ball down field. As players from both teams crashed the box, Jocelyn Daniel slipped the ball to Ashley Vidal, who kicked the ball past MSU keeper Heather Jones for what proved to be the game-winning goal.
Despite allowing the one goal, Jones put on a show in net for the Racers. The junior faced 15 shots-on-goal and stopped 14 of them to tie the Murray State record for saves in a game. Current Racer Annie Fortier and former Racer Geri Thompson each recorded a 14-save match.
MSU managed just six shots-on-goal. Tech's Lisa Wourms made six saves while collecting her first shutout of the season.
With four shots each, Vidal and Joni Simmons combined for eight of the Golden Eagles' 20 shots for the match. Murray State totaled 12 shots, including three each from Laura Oppegard and Krista Llewellyn.
The Racers step out of conference play when they host University of Evansville on Wednesday at Cutchin Field on the MSU campus. The match is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
