MSU Wins Championship At Birmingham Southern Showdown

What a great way to end the fall season, with a convincing win in a good field of college golf teams. The Murray State Men's team scored a three shot win at the Buffalo Rock-Southern Showdown in Birmingham, Ala. The Racers finished with rounds of 278-280-278=836, Southern Illinois finished three shots back in second place with a score of 839.

Host Birmingham Southern finished third at 846, while Berry College took home fourth at 847. Fellow Ohio Valley Conference teams Tennessee Tech (854), Samford (861) and UT-Martin (870) finished sixth, seventh and 10^th in the 54-hole event.

To say Jerry Price shot lights out is an understatement. What the Murray State junior did was have the best tournament of his collegiate career in finishing second individually. Price fired rounds of 69-66 and 67 on the par-71 Bent Brook GC which was also playing a very long 7,075 yards.

Price wasn't the only Racer taking dead aim at the flag. Mitchell Moore rallied to finish ninth place after closing with rounds of 70-67 after starting with a 74. Nick Griffin (68-72-73=213) turned in an 18^th place finish, while Joe Landrum (69-73-72=214) finished 21^st. Michael Craft fired three straight rounds of 72 to finish 32^nd.

MSU's Mark Brant played as an individual and finished 25^th with rounds of 73-70-72=215.

The Racers are finished for the fall and return to action Mar. 5-6 at the Grover Page Classic hosted by UT-Martin at Pickwick Dam Park, Tenn.
