Anna Lask And Casady Pruitt Post Top-5 Finishes For MSU Tennis

A pair of Murray State University women's tennis players posted top-5 finishes this weekend at the Hoosier Classic hosted by Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. The Racers combined to play 40 matches in three days against opponents from the Big 10, Big 12, Southeastern and Big East conferences. Anna Lask finished fourth in Flight A singles. Casady Pruitt placed fifth in Flight D singles.

Lask defeated her first round opponent, Laura McGaffigan of Indiana, in three sets. Lask dropped the first set 6-1 before winning a second set tie breaker and then posting a 1-0 victory in the third set. In the Flight A semifinals, Lask fell in three sets to Colleen Rielley of Notre Dame. In the third place match, Martina Banikova of Mississippi beat Lask, 6-4 and 6-2.

Pruitt lost her opening singles match but came back to win two matches and earn a fifth place finish in Flight D singles. Adrienne Elsberry of Georgia beat Pruitt 6-2 and 6-1 in round one. In the consolation semifinals, Pruitt advanced when DeAndra Saddler withdrew. In the fifth place match, Pruitt beat Tatiana Feit of Mississippi in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-4.

In round robin singles play, MSU's Anne Pennington and Lynsey Bochenek both won two of their three matches. Pennington took out Kellie O'Flynn of Notre Dame (6-2 and 6-4) and Bailey Louderback of Notre Dame (6-3 and 6-2). Bochenek also posted wins over Louderback (6-0 and 6-1) and O'Flynn (6-2, 4-6, 1-0(5).

In doubles play, Anna Lask and Rachael Lask advanced to the quarterfinals with an opening round win over Indiana's Sigrid Fischer and Cecile Perton, 9-8(3). The Lask sisters would go on to earn a seventh place finish in doubles after beating LSU's Ashley Murdock and Tiffany Tucker by a score of 9-7.

Murray State freshmen Angela McGahee and Bochenek advanced to the consolation semifinals of the doubles tournament. After an opening round loss the duo came back to take out Marah Calvo and Lindsey Stuckey of Indiana 8-3.

After the event was over the Racers had combined for 14 wins against competitors from the Big 10, Big 12, Southeastern and Big East conferences.

Next up for the Racers is a trip to Chapel Hill, N.C., for the ITA Regional. The event will be held Thursday through Sunday and will be hosted by the University of North Carolina.
