Murray State University's women's rowing team competed at the Head of the Chattahoochee this past weekend in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Racers' novice-eight crew placed 12th among 22 squads, beating teams from Alabama, Vanderbilt, Southern Methodist, Duke and Tennessee.
The novice-eight crew finished in a time of 18:45.7, 5.6 seconds behind Alabama-B and 17.8 seconds in front of Alabama-A. Texas won the event in a time of 16:40.4.
Murray State had two squads in the varsity-four event. The A group placed 17th in a time of 18:04.6. The B crew finished 27th with a time of 19:38.0. A total of 29 teams participated in the event. Tennessee won the varsity-four race in a time of 16:55.9.
In the varsity-eight event, Murray State finished 24th among 27 teams. The Racers posted a time of 17:22.4. Tennessee claimed the top two spots with the B team finishing in a time of 15:35.7 to capture first place.
The Murray State Rowing team has finished the fall portion of its 2006-07 schedule. The team will next conduct winter training in Natchitoches, La., on Jan. 6-14.
