"We are very excited about this year's group of signees," said Griffin. "The staff did a great job of identifying and recruiting these young men. Members of our faculty and staff took their personal time to visit with the prospects and their parents. Our current players were tremendous ambassadors and helped detail student life for these young men and all of these factors played a big part in their decision to attend Murray State University."
"We are very fortunate and thankful to have the support of our athletic director, Allen Ward, and the entire athletic administration," Griffin added.
Griffin's first recruiting class at MSU consists of six student-athletes each from Georgia and Tennessee, five each from Kentucky and Ohio, three from Missouri and one from Wisconsin.
Griffin's will begin his first spring practice at Murray State on March 29.
Today is national signing day, the first day for potential football recruits to sign with the program of their choice, and some outstanding talent chose Murray State.
Kenneth Benjamin, 5-10, 170, WR, Fairfield, Ohio (Seniro HS) His team was 8-3 in 2005 and won the Miami Conference championship. Benjamin was an all-conference selection in 2005 with 50 catches for 875 yards and 16 touchdowns. Also competes in basketball and baseball. "Kenny is a great athlete," said MSU Assistant Coach Kevin Cahill. "He has the ability to be a great playmaker and can naturally turn a good play into a great play."
Blake Booth, 6-3, 205, TE, Lexington, Tenn. (Lexington HS) Booth helped his team to four playoff appearances including a region runner-up finish in 2004 and a region championship in 2005. He recorded 101 tackles, two sacks, one interception and forced seven fumbles his senior year. He was twice named first team all-region. Booth was selected first team All-West Tennessee and first team all-state following his senior season. "Blake has great size at 6-3 along with athleticism," said MSU Assistant Coach Matt Wise. "Blake plays with intensity on every play, and is not afraid to let that show."
