Murray State Golf Places Fourth In Season Opener

The Murray State Racers men's team has high hopes for this spring's golf season and a fourth place finish at the Samford Intercollegiate at Limstone, Ala. will only boost their confidence.
In the third round of the 54-hole event, the Racers fired a 293, the best round of the day from the 11 teams in the event and placed fourth with a total of 909. Belmont won the event with a score of 889. Troy finished second at 891 and Tennessee Tech third at 892.
Senior Kyle Shirley was the Racers highest finisher coming in seventh place after rounds of 76-73-72 for a score of 224. He was 10 shots behind winner Michael McGrady of Troy who turned in rounds of 72-68-71 for a score of 211.
Two other Racers placed in the top 15.
Junior Nicolas Griffin had rounds of 77-73-74 and a total of 224 for a 10th place finish.
Senior Will Cox turned in scores of 77-74-75 and finished 15th with a score of 226.
Sophomore Michael Craft finished 25th after round of 79-77-74 = 230.
Senior Jamie Frazier finished 41st with rounds of 82-81-72 = 235.
Freshman Mitch Moore was 72nd in the event with rounds of 79-82-87 = 248.
The tournament was played at one of the finest courses in Alabama, the Limestone Golf Club played 6,987 yards for the Samford event and par of 72. There were 75 competitors in the field.
Next up for the Racers is the Grover Page Classic, March 6-7, hosted by UT-Martin.
The event will be contested at Pickwick Dam State Park Golf Course.
