Racers Women's Golf Places Fifth in Tampa Event

Murray State enjoyed the warm Florida sunshine and finished fifth in a good showing at the NIU Snowbird Intercollegiate in Tampa. MSU's final round 312 coupled with their first round 317 put them into a tie for fifth with Southern Illinois, both with team totals of 629. Bradley won the team title with a total of 609.

The tournament had 15 teams in the field. The event was played on the Pebble Creek course at par 72 and 5,940 yards.

MSU's Ilka Loubser played two excellent rounds of 77-75=152 to finish in a tie for fourth with Christine Zoerlin of SIU and Charlotte McGinnis of Bradley. They were all eight shots behind the winner, Meaghan LeBlanc of Bradley who had a two round total of 144.

The Racers played well throughout the lineup. Christi Baron finished in a tie for 11th after rounds of 80-74=154. Julie Bennett turned in a 40th place finish with rounds of 78-85=154. Lauren Hughes had scores of 82-82 for a total of 164 and a 44th place finish, as did Ashley Kelbough after rounds of 83-81=164.

The Racers continue their spring trip with more competition at the Lady Herd/El Diablo Intercollegiate hosted by Marshall University at Ocala, Fla. Monday, March 20 and Tuesday, March 21.

After returning home, MSU will compete at the Southern Illinois Saluki Invitational March 26 and 27.
