Lady Racers Finish Third at Big River Telephone Classic

Murray State's Julie Bennett fired a final round 77, and her teammate Lauren Hughes came home with a tournament best 75 and it helped the Lady Racers to an event-best 317, but it wasn't enough to catch Cincinnati who won the event with a total score of 649. UC was two shots clear of Eastern Kentucky that shot a 320 and finished with a 650 and nine shots better than MSU with a total of 658.
The Lady Racers brilliant final round included an 82 from Christi Baron and an 83 from Ilka Loubser. Ashley Kelbough's 85 was the high score from the team of five and was not used.
Bennett finished in a tie for second with Cincinnati's Allison Mayborg both with 159's, they were one shot behind winner Hillery Wilson of Cincinnati, she had a 158.
Baron finished sixth with a total of 166, Hughes made a huge jump to 20th recovering after a first round 93 to shoot the best round of the tournament with a 75. Loubser's 83 put her in a tie for 23rd place and Kelbough finished 38th.
MSU had several players competing as individuals: April Steenbergen finished tied for ninth after a 79 and a total of 164. Bethany Yates has a final round 85 for a total of 172. Jessica Wilson had an 83 in the final round and finished tied for 43rd with a 176. Jena Lancaster finished 51st after a second round 92.
Murray State hosted the tournament at their home course, Miller Memorial which placed to a par 72 and 6,017 yards.
The Lady Racers next event is March 16 and 17 in Tampa, Fla. at the Northern Illinois Snowbird Invitational.
