Racer Men's Golf Wins Grover Page Classic By Nine Shots, Kyle Shirley Medalist

The Murray State men's golf team brought home the championship of the Grover Page Classic at Pickwick Dam State Park, Tenn. by nine shots over second place North Alabama. MSU's three-round total of 859 included rounds of 287, 280 and 292. MSU led by five shots after the first round and by 22 after the second round.
MSU senior Kyle Shirley tied with Hunter Prescott of UT-Martin with a score of 211. No playoff was contested and Prescott was declared the winner on a count-back.
The Pickwick course played to a par of 72 and 6,483 yards.
Shirley started off the event with a one-over 73, but then came home with a one-under 71 and shot his best in the third round with a five-under 67.
UT-Martin's JV team finished third at 869, Morehead State was fourth at 873, and UT-Martin's first team was fifth at 878.
The Racers had an exellent event with Michael Craft and Nicholas Griffin also scoring under par. Craft finished tied for third with Griffin and had rounds of 69, 59 and 74 for a four-under 212, while Griffin shot rounds of 71, 70 and 71 for the same total.
Jamie Frazier finished tied for 25th with rounds of 77, 73 and 74 for a 224. Will Cox shot rounds of 77, 75 and 74 for a 226 and a 34th place finish.
Murray State Freshman Mitchell Moore played as an individual in the event and finished tied for 25th after rounds of 73, 76 and 75 for a total of 224.
The Racers next event is in Princeville, Hawaii March 17-18 when they compete at the Makai Golf Club. Some of the teams competing include, host Western Kentucky, Princeton, Yale, BYU, Illinois State, Western Illinois.
