MSU Golf Enjoys First Day In Shadow Of The Arch

In their final tune up before the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament, the Murray State men's golf squad fired rounds of 292 and 299 Monday for a total of 591 which put them in a tie for second with Tennessee Tech, six shots behind leader Austin Peay in the Billiken Invitational hosted by St. Louis University.
The three OVC teams are making the event a good preview of the end of the season conference finale.
MSU junior Michael Craft was outstanding in the first two rounds coming home with an even par 71 in the morning and a one over 72 in the afternoon. His total of 143 puts him in a tie for third with Chris Bouchard of Evansville for third place with a total of 143. Yoshio Yamamoto of Austin Peay is in second with a score of 141 and the leader is from the host team St. Louis, Barry O'Neill with 140.
All of the MSU players had excellent rounds as well. Jerry Price, playing as an individual shot 72-75=147 and stands in 13th place. Will Cox had rounds of 73-76=149 for a spot in 20th. Freshman Mitchell Moore is also in 20th position after rounds of 76-73. Nick Griffin is in 24th place after rounds of 72-78=150. Jamie Frazier is in 60th place with twin rounds of 78.
The event is being played across the Mississippi river in Madison, Ill., views of downtown St. Louis including the new Busch Stadium and the Gateway Arch are common. The course plays to a par of 71 and is 6,950 yards, the longest the Racers have played this season. There are 80 players in the field.
The Racers are playing in their 11th event since last fall and have finished in the top 10 in every one.
