Julie Bennett And Christi Baron Named All-OVC Second Team

Bennett, a senior from
MSU head coach Velvet Milkman was pleased to learn of the honors for her two players.
“Certainly, Christi is very deserving of being named All-OVC,” Milkman said. “She has been our leader on the course all season, she has been very consistent.”
“I'm very happy for Julie,” Milkman said. “She's our best ball striker.”
Milkman said it was hard work that helped Bennett and Baron to this point.
“The improvement Christi made, especially in the short game has made all the difference,” Milkman said. “It's turned her into an all-league performer.”
Milkman added, “When Julie came to MSU, she had been playing golf for only three years. Her earning an all-league honor is a credit to her love of the game and her desire to get better, which she did.”
Baron is ninth in the OVC in scoring average at 80.6 in 25 rounds, including eight rounds under 80. She turned in three to-15 finishes, with her best coming at the Saluki Invitational three weeks ago when she fired rounds of 78 and 77 to finish seventh. Baron's low round of the fall-spring campaign was a 74 at the UNI Snowbird Invitational in
Bennett is 14th with an average of 82.1.in 25 rounds of golf. She has four rounds under 80. Her best finish came at the MSU Invitational when she finished second with rounds of 82-77, one shot behind
The Racers are preparing to host the OVC Tournament beginning Monday at Drake Creek. The 54-hole event will conclude Wednesday. MSU has won six league titles with two streaks of three straight. The first three in a row string came in 1997, 1998,1999 and the other was in 2002, 2003, 2004. In 2005, the Racers finished fourth behind champion
