Murray State University's women's rowing team made two finals appearances in the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship on Saturday in Oak Ridge, Tenn. MSU's novice-four boat placed second, beating teams from Georgia, Kansas & Louisville. Murray State's varsity-four placed fourth, finishing ahead of squads from Miami and Wake Forest.
The novice-four boat advanced to the finals after finishing first in its semifinal heat. In the semifinals, the Racers posted a time of 8:11.5, which was the third best in the three semifinal races.
In the finals, Murray State finished second behind the University of Miami (Fla.). The Racers posted a time of 8:18.2, 8.7 seconds behind the Hurricanes. Georgia (8:24.2) placed third, Kansas (8:25.3) was fourth, Jacksonville (8:26.0) fifth and Louisville (8:38.9) finished sixth.
The varsity-four crew placed second in its semifinal heat. Murray State posted a time of 7:57.7 and finished 2.2 seconds behind Nova Southeastern. MSU beat boats from Wake Forest, West Virginia and Kansas in the semifinals.
In the finals, the Racers finished in a time of 8:07.9, which was 5.6 seconds behind first place William & Mary. Kansas State (8:04.8) placed second and Nova Southeastern (8:05.8) was third. MSU beat fifth place Miami (8:17.8) by 9.8 seconds. Wake Forest (8:45.4) finished sixth.
The Murray State rowing team will compete in the Midwest Intercollegiate Rowing Regatta on Saturday in Omaha, Neb.
