MSU Ends Spring Workouts with Blue-Gold Scrimmage

The Murray State Racers finished their spring workout season under the lights at Roy Stewart Stadium with the annual Blue-Gold game pitting the MSU defense vs. the offense for 71 plays.
The defense prevailed in a tight and competitive game, winning 21-19. Points were awarded on offense for a first down (one point), three points for a field goal, six points for a touchdown, and one point for a PAT conversion. On defense, a series stop without a first down was worth one point, a forced turnover was worth three points, and a touchdown off the turnover was 10 points.

On the offensive side, quarterbacks Ryne Salyer, Chris Hirschfield and Brad Frost combined to go 10 for 24 for 95 yards, one touchdown (Salyer to Lee McGinnis) and two interceptions. McGinnis and DeAngelo Nelson caught three passes apiece, while Chad Cook, Ben Rush, Jonathan Eiland and Rod Harper had one reception each. Cook carried the ball 19 times for 103 yards, and Dante Woods had 13 carries for 33 yards. Salyer and Zach Knight had one carry each.
Webber led the defense with seven tackles, while Jay Burgett had six. Sturgis had five tackles and one interception, while Andrew Fogg, Nathan Williams, Koji Farrington and Antonio Patton had four tackles each. Dominic Spinks and Gerald Goldberg had three tackles each, while Taylor Lanigan had two tackles, a sack, and an interception. Also collecting tackles were Brian Crean (two), Rance Powell (two), Seth Warren (two), Phillip McKenzie (1), Derrick Parrott (1), Chris Fountain (1), Ismael Alvarez (1), and Vincent Coley (1).
On special teams, Crass was 1-1 in his PAT attempts, while Tim Wright was 1-for-1 at field goals, nailing a 31-yard attempt. On punts, Wright punted three times for an average of 39 yards per punt, and Barkley Carr punted three times for an average of 31.7 yards per punt..
