Murray State head coach Matt Griffin is looking forward to tonight's spring game because it will give his team a chance to turn on the lights at Stewart Stadium and play in front of a bunch of fans. The 60-play controlled scrimmage will be the final workout of 15 allowable spring practices. Fans are invited to a cookout in the stadium concourse beginning at 4 p.m., where fans can meet the MSU players and coaches before the 7 p.m. scrimmage. The Cookout is $6 per person, there will be no admission for the scrimmage.
"We've had a good spring season," Griffin said. "Our team has accomplished a bunch during these workouts, they've learned the way we want to play the game and this spring period will vault us into the summer and then into the fall when we get ready for the 2006 season."
The MSU defense will occupy the far sideline at Stewart Stadium tonight and wear blue jerseys. The offense will have the near sideline and wear white jerseys.
Yesterday at practice, Griffin revealed the player captains for the 2006 season. Offensive lineman Jonathan Harper and linebacker J.R. Webber were elected by their teammates.
Griffin has also named honorary coaches for the game. John Fuqua of Murray will be with the MSU defense and Mike Utley will help coach the MSU offense.
