Practice 6-MSU Spring Football
4/6/2006 5:00:00 AM | Football
These days, former Mayfield star Derrick Parrott seems more comfortable than ever as he suits up for the sixth practice of Murray State's spring workouts. Never a player that says all that much, Parrott is an upper classman now, a junior.
“We've been working hard this spring, earning the respect of our coaches,” Parrott said. “They've been telling us to give 100 percent on every play, work hard on the little things, and be perfectly sound on our technique. They are putting us in position to play to the best of our abilities.”
Parrott became an immediate contributor in his first season as a starter in 2005, finishing fourth on the team in tackles with 49. But taking the ball carrier to the turf isn't the only thing Parrott brings to the defensive side of the ball, as the 6-foot 195-pound defensive back also led the team with three interceptions, forcing a fumble, recovering a fumble, breaking up three passes, and even added in one sack.
Parrott has been a contributor on special teams since he was a freshman. He returns punts and kickoffs and is among the best in the Ohio valley Conference
