In football, if you hear a center's name on the radio or television, it's usually bad news, like a botched snap or a holding penalty. Needless, to say, Racer fans didn't hear Matt Garrett's name too often last season.
Garrett, a senior from
“It's all been high intensity,” Garrett said of this spring's workouts. “We've been working real hard, and there's been no room for play.”
Garrett will be looked upon by first-year head coach Matt Griffin to lead a young offensive line that built holes for the powerful Racer running game last season, where the Racers averaged 184.0 yards per game. However, three of the five full-time starting offensive linemen graduated, so Garrett will provide solid leadership for the o-line.
MSU NOTES: The Racers returned to full pads today on a soggy field that had been hit by rain earlier today. All the rain was gone by the beginning of today's practice, but a strong northbound wind still remained. Some of the players had trouble with their footing and holding on to the wet footballs during drills proved challenging.
