MSU Crew Makes Two Semifinal Appearances At Dad Vail Regatta

The varsity-four team consisted of Samantha Hobbs as the coxswain, Sarah Bullock at the stroke position, Rachel Hopper in the three-seat, Anna Brown in the two-seat and Tracy Bogard in the one-seat.
The crew placed first in its first round heat to earn a spot in the semifinals. The Racers finished in a time of 7:45.15, beating second place RIT (7:49.69) by 4.54 seconds. MSU also beat Amherst, Connecticut, Northwestern and Northwestern Louisiana. Among the nine heat winners, Murray State posted the fifth best time.
In its semifinal heat the varsity-four crew finished fourth among six teams. The Racers posted a time of 7:31.84, finishing 1.8 seconds behind first place Carnegie Mellon (7:30.04). MSU crossed the line in front of Iona and Colgate.
The novice-four crew consisted of Toni Guthrie as the coxswain, Elizabeth Van Lengen at the stroke position, Andria Kroner in the three-seat, Christa Bugg in the two-seat and Kelly Anderson in the one-seat.
In the opening round, MSU easily won its heat in a time of 8:02.79. The Racers beat Purdue (8:06.42) by 3.63 seconds. Robert Morris placed third and Georgia was fourth. Murray State's time in the opening round heat was fourth best among the nine heat winners.
In the semifinal round, the top two teams from each of the three heats would advance to the finals. Murray State's novice-four crew finished third in a time of 7:51.53, 5.72 seconds behind second place Duquesne (7:45.81). Tennessee-Chattanooga (7:42.17) won the heat while Catholic finished fourth, Penn State fifth and Purdue sixth.
