Murray State Thoroughbreds Seth Hudson and Tyler Owen each earned All-Ohio Valley Conference honors this season, as announced at the pre-tournament banquet in Paducah, Ky., tonight.
Hudson, a junior second baseman from Cape Girardeau, Mo., made the All-OVC Second Team. He batted .385, among the best in the league, playing in 33 games until he had a season-ending injury on April 14. He had 50 hits, scored 25 runs and had a co-team-high three triples. He also sported an on-base percentage of .452. In league play, he batted .476 in 11 OVC games with 20 hits. He made four errors all season at second base, with only one error in conference play.
Owen, a freshman third baseman from Evansville, Ind., earned All-Freshman Team honors. Owen batted .251, playing in 54 games and starting in 48. He had 46 hits with 16 doubles, ranking second on the team and among the top 10 in the OVC. He made only 10 errors at third base, the second-fewest among third basemen in the OVC.
"This was a tribute to Seth, that he could play in 11 OVC games and be recognized with all-conference honors," said MSU head coach Rob McDonald. "It shows where he was headed if not for his season-ending injury. This is also nice for Tyler to be recognized for his play as a freshman."
The O'Reilly OVC Championship Tournament begins tomorrow (Wednesday) at 2:30 p.m. at Brooks Stadium in Paducah.
