Murray State Unveils New Football Helmet Design

Murray State University unveiled its new football helmet design today. When the team takes the field this season, everyone will know it's the Racers. On both sides of the new helmet design is the word “RACERS”. The new design replaces the standard Murray State primary athletics logo which has been used on helmets since 2000.

After 11 straight days of preseason practice, the coaches have given the team an off day today. The Racers will spend their practice time relaxing in the swimming pool and having a cookout.

The helmets will feature an American flag and a yellow ribbon on the back. The theme of the 2006 Racers, "TEAM", will be clearly stated on the front, above the face mask.

The Racers will have their last two-a-day of preseason camp on Friday. The first practice will start at 8:15 a.m., and the second will get underway at 3:15 p.m.

Murray State opens its 82nd season of college football on Sept. 2 when the team travels to Columbia, Mo., to face the University of Missouri at 6 p.m. The Racers first home game of the Matt Griffin era will be on Sept. 23 when the team faces Illinois State at 6 p.m., at Stewart Stadium.
