MSU Soccer Opens Season At IUPUI

Murray State Soccer opens the 2006 season tonight at IUPUI in Indianapolis, Ind. in what is the beginning of the Beth Acreman era. Game time is 7 p.m.

Acreman leads her first MSU squad into the program's seventh season. The Murray State Soccer program was started in 2000.

MSU Soccer meets a Jaguars squad from IUPUI that was 3-11-2 in 2005 and returns six starters. The Racers were 8-11-1 and return 23 lettermen.

Murray State and IUPUI played at Murray's Cutchin Field last Sep. 18 and battled to a 2-2 draw in double-overtime. The game was not only even on the scoreboard, but the two squads were deadlocked in taking 17 shots each and both put seven shots on goal. The Racer goals were scored by Krista Llewellyn and Melisa Curry.

IUPUI was picked sixth of seven schools in the Mid-Continent Conference preseason poll. The Racers were picked fourth of eight teams in the Ohio Valley Conference poll.

Both squads have played one exhibition game. Murray State lost 3-0 at Middle Tennessee last Saturday, while IUPUI lost at Ball State 4-0.

After tonight's game at IUPUI, the Racers travel to Southern Mississippi Fri. Sep. 1 and stage their home opener Sun. Sep. 3 against Indiana State at 1 p.m.
