MSU's Chris Griffin Wins West Kentucky Amateur

Murray State golfer Chris Griffin used a first round 65 and some gutsy play in Sunday's final round 71 to win the West Kentucky Amateur at Mayfield Country Club.

The Murray State sophomore showed tremendous poise and confidence when he found himself trailing by three strokes with five holes to play. His competition was another Racer, Jason Lancaster who played at Murray State, and finished as a senior in 1997.

Griffin told the Paducah Sun, “I definitely saw a lot of maturity in my game (Sunday). My parents commented that I never looked too excited or down no matter what happened.”

Chris Griffin is a former player from Paducah Tilghman High School and was the 2004 champion of the Kentucky Region-One title before coming to play at Murray State. He will join his MSU teammates this month. The Racers first time out of the gate will be at the Wasioto Winds Fall Kick Off, Sep. 4-5 at Pine Mountain State Park in Pineville, Ky.
