The MSU Women's Soccer team plays Southeast Missouri State in their second Ohio Valley Conference contest Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in Cape Girardeau, Mo. The game was originally scheduled for last Friday but was postponed because of heavy rain. The teams are meeting for the ninth time, each team has four wins.
The Racers are coming off a hard fought 1-1 tie Sunday at Eastern Illinois. The tie felt more like a victory for the Racers against a Panthers squad that has never finished worse than second in the OVC. Laura Oppegard scored before the game was 10 minutes old, and goal keeper Heather Jones held EIU out until the 80th minute. No one scored in either of the two overtime periods.
Southeast Missouri State won its league opener Sunday 1-0 over Tennessee-Martin and stands 4-4 overall this season. The Racers are 3-4-2 but have gone 3-1-2 in their last six matches.
The Racers are getting tremendous production from its front line of Krista Llewellyn, Rebekah Clay and Lacey Latmer. The trio ranks first, second and fifth in OVC total points and goals scored. Heather Jones ranks third in the league in goals against average with 1.40.
After Tuesday's match at SEMO, the Racers look forward to a big home weekend with a 3 p.m. Friday match against Austin Peay and a Sunday 1 p.m. contest with Tennessee Tech.
