Racer Golf Plays Windy Rainy Round at Wildcat Fall Invite

The Murray State Women's Golf team teed it up Saturday in Lexington at the Wildcat Fall Invitational hosted by Kentucky. The first day of action was played in poor conditions with some rain and lots of wind. The Racers ended the first day of 36 holes 14th of 15 teams in the field.
The Racers fired a morning team total of 344 and had a 342 in the afternoon. The Racers had a team total of 686 strokes.
Louisville was the leader after two rounds of the 54-hole event with a score of 630. North Carolina State was tied with Memphis for second place at 631. Nebraska was fourth with a score of 634.
The Racers have a very young squad and this event at the University Club is a learning experience.
"Our team is growing and improving as we go along," Head Coach Velvet Milkman said. "This is a very good tournament we're in, and our team is learning how to play at a higher level, playing in an event like this will help us down the road."
Freshman Andrea Downer fired rounds of 85-78=163 and was the Racers best finisher in the first two rounds at 37th place. Senior Christi Baron had rounds of 80-90=170 and stands in 65th place. Sophomore Bethany Yates is in 72nd place after rounds of 88-86=174. Freshman Megan McKinney is in 76th place after rounds of 91-88=179. Senior Lauren Hughes is in 81st place with rounds of 97-94=191.
Jessica Wilson and Ashley Yates are playing as individuals. Wilson is in 80th position after scores of 100-90=190 and Yates stands in 79th after rounds of 94-92=186.
The Tournament concludes Sunday with 18 holes. The Wildcat Invitational is being played on the UK University Club course to a par-72 and 6,157 yards.
