Racer Football Working Hard In The "Off" Season

The season is over, has been for more than two months, but
Cecil's program currently has the Racers closing in on the end of the strength training portion. In about two weeks the team will begin to focus on conditioning and speed training.
“The guys have been very motivated and are taking very well to the training,” Cecil said. “They've done a good job of picking up on new things and they've been very vocal in the weight room, pushing each other to work hard.”
The strength training portion of the program has the players doing many of the same exercises. However, there are portions designed for different positions. For example, the quarterbacks will do more exercises geared toward strengthening their shoulders while linemen will do a little more lower-body work than some others.
In addition, as players progress through the winter, routines may be tailored to meet the needs of an individual player.
“This has been the hardest off-season programs I've been through,” said freshman fullback Bryan Cardenas. “We're working hard and trying to grow together as a team.”
Last season's group of freshmen have shown that they are ready to take ownership in the team. They've worked hard, pushed each other and have taken the training seriously. Meanwhile, the upperclassmen have answered the call. The juniors and seniors have helped keep everyone focused and on task.
“It's going really well,” said Quinton Hankins, a rising junior. “Coach Cecil does a great job of teaching us the proper technique so we can get the most out of our work.”
