10/19/2007 5:00:00 AM | Women's Soccer
The Murray State Racers women's soccer squad finishes up the home portion of their regular season today and Sunday when they host Southeast Missouri and
In the chase for the Ohio Valley Conference regular season title, the Racers are three points behind SEMO and Samford who share the lead with 15 points, each are 5-0. The Racers have 12 points and are 4-2 in league play. OVC scoring rules award three points for a win and one point for a tie, so the Racers would catch SEMO with a win and at least a share of second place. Samford plays tonight at Tennessee Tech at 7 p.m.
When the Racers play EIU Sunday, seniors Kara Carlile and Jen Nowak will tie the MSU record for career games played with 75. The two have been solid performers throughout their careers.
MSU is coming off a pair of 2-1 victories last weekend when they received a goal from Nowak Friday in the 78th minute to defeat Austin Peay 2-1, and then had Rebekah Clay scored in the 63rd minute Sunday for a 2-1 win over Tennessee Tech.
Jaclyn Ramage was named the OVC's Defensive Player of the Week.
The Racers' wins were both on the road as they have pushed their winning streak to four straight. MSU's team record is five straight wins from the 2005 season.
Rebekah Clay continues to show why she is a two-time All-OVC pick. She's leading the Racers in goals with six and assists with four.
Goalkeeper Tara Isbell has been outstanding in goal and has allowed only two goals in the last four games. MSU spread the scoring around against APSU and TTU, with four different players (Jaclyn Ramage, Jen Nowak, Krista Muilkens, Rebekah Clay) scoring one goal each. The Racers have also received balanced scoring with 12 different players having scored at least one goal through 15 matches.
Five of the Racers' nine wins have come by one goal and four of their six losses have come by one goal.
The Racers' nine wins has tied the program record for a single season. MSU won nine games in their inaugural season in 2000 when the team was named the Best First Year Team by Soccer Buzz. MSU is one win away from tying the program mark for OVC wins in a single season. MSU won five conference games in 2005.
Senior day activities for MSU's eight seniors will held prior to the Sunday match against EIU. The senior members of the team are: Kara Carlile, Lauren Granger, Lacey Latimer, Katrina Meyer, Jen Nowak, Jen Peios, Jaclyn Ramage and Sara Struve.
