Murray State women's golf head coach Velvet Milkman announced the signing of Morgan Cross from Central Hardin High School in Cecilia, Ky.
Cross will be a freshman with the Racers in the fall of 2008.
“I am excited about Morgan's choice to continue her education and golf career at Murray State,” MSU head coach Velvet Milkman said. “I think she is a very good fit for our program, a very good student and talented golfer.”
Cross brings with her an outstanding resume of achievements on the course and off.
She was the anchor of a Central Hardin gold team that won the Kentucky state championship in 2005 and 2006 and finished second in 2004 and 2007. Individually Cross finished in 8th place as a senior in 2007, placed 11th in 2006, 15th in 2005, and 18th as a freshman in 2004. Her team won the Region championship four straight seasons.
“Morgan comes from a successful high school program so she knows what it takes to win,” Milkman said. “I'm looking forward to Morgan having a successful career at Murray State.”
Cross was also busy playing summer golf in 2007.
Last summer she was chosen to represent Kentucky at the USGA Women's State Team Championship in Houston, Texas. Cross also qualified for the Kentucky State Women's Amateur championship match and finished runner up for the title. She won the Pepsi GeneratioNext tournament of champions with rounds of 75-77 and placed fourth in the Kentucky Girls Junior Amateur with scores of 79-76.
Cross also excels in the classroom and ranked in the top 12 percent of a class of 400 students at Central Hardin.
