The Murray State rowing team closed out the fall season at the Head of the Chattahoochee in Chattanooga, Tenn. last weekend with two boats coming away with medals.
In the open eight race, MSU brought home the championship after posting a time of 19:48.0, beating second-place Georgia Rowing Club by over seven seconds. The championship boat consisted of Sara Eckler (coxswain), Katelyn Campbell, Karen Delaney, Andria Kroner, Collen Rice, Kari Weisenfeld, Hannah Neely, Kelli Boyer and Jessie Stamper.
The club four shell also brought home a medal as the team of Eckler (coxswain), Ricer, Kroner, Kelly Boyer and Kelly Anderson brought home a bronze medal in a time of 20:15.8.
In the championship eight race, the Racers turned in a solid race, but a 30 second penalty dropped the team back into 18th place. The team's raw time of 18:31.7 would have placed them 15th ahead of North Carolina and Jacksonville. The eight-member shell was made up by Wesly Newmaster (coxswain), Campbell, Delaney, Anna Brown, Stefanie Kozuszek, Lyndsey Staples, Connie Gorman, Weisenfeld and Neely.
The championship four shell raced into ninth place with a time of 20:35.3, defeating teams from Alabama, Duke and Tennessee.
In the open two event, Brown and Kozuszek posted a fifth-place finish after posting a time of 22:04.5. They were edged for fourth place by the narrowest of margins to the shell from Duke (22:04.4). Staples and Gorman placed eighth in a time of 23:01.7.
The Racers open the 2008 season on Jan. 6 at the annual winter trip to Natchitoches, La.
