Murray State's football team continues to work hard during the “off-season.” The Racers are getting a double dose of conditioning and strength training over the next two weeks. The players are working out four days a week at 5:45 a.m. inside the Regional Special Events Center (RSEC) and then return to the Stewart Stadium weight room in the afternoon for weight training.
The 5:45 a.m. conditioning session last for an hour and 15 minutes and is designed for both physical and mental conditioning. The Racers work on team building and mental toughness in addition to working on speed, change of direction, footwork, acceleration and lateral speed.
“Our effort is very good,” said Murray State Head Coach Matt Griffin. “Their effort as a team is outstanding. We're really stressing details and they've done a good job focusing on those.”
Strength and conditioning coach Justin Cecil will continue the hectic pace for another full week and then begin tapering down the program leading up to spring break.
“What our strength coach has done is outstanding,” Griffin said. “He does things I've never seen before, and I love it.”
Murray State will open its 2007 season on Aug. 30 when the team travels to Louisville, Ky., to face the University of Louisville at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.
