Payton Named OVC Player Of The Week

Senior catcher Jason Payton was named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 25.
Payton was 10-for-20 against formidible opposition in Louisville, No. 25 Kentucky and Mississippi State this week. He hit home runs in each of his first two games, an had a slugging percentage of .850. He scored five runs and drove in seven, and had seven assists in four games behind the plate.
The Murray State Thoroughbreds will play their home-opener on Tuesday at 2 p.m. against Freed-Hardeman at MSU's Reagan Field. The 'Breds will also host regional rival Arkansas State on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
"We are certainly looking forward to coming back and playing at home," said MSU head coach Rob McDonald. "We played fairly well against some tough, tough opposition on the road, so we're wanting to get thigns going on our home field."
