Murray State Head Football Coach Matt Griffin recently announced his team's spring practice schedule. The Racers will hold 14 spring practices which will be capped off by the annual spring game on April 21 at 12 p.m. All practices will be held on the MSU football practice field next to Stewart Stadium. A coaches' clinic will be held on April 13 and 14.
With the Stewart Stadium field reconstruction project expected to start on April 15, the spring game will also be held on the practice field.
“We're very excited about getting back on the field in the spring and working hard to get better in all aspects of the game,” said Griffin. “Coaches love this time of the year because we get a chance to be out on the field for a couple of weeks teaching. In addition, we get to see how all the strength and conditioning training these guys have been doing the last couple of months is going to improve their play on the field.”
Griffin will have 53 players returning from the 2006 squad on the practice field this spring. In addition, three players that joined the program in January will also be available to take part in spring practice.
The coaches' clinic will begin at 8 a.m., on April 13. The morning session will include presentations on offense from Shawn Berner (Ft. Campbell HS), Wade Comer (McKenzie HS) and Steve Lindsey (Lexington HS), and defensive presentations by Perry Thomas (Paducah Tilghman HS), John Edge (Owensboro Catholic HS) and Ron Crawford (Brentwood HS).
Following lunch, MSU Strength and Conditioning Coach Justin Cecil will speak and then coaches in attendance will be allowed to sit in on special teams and position meetings with MSU coaches and players. After the Racers' afternoon practice, coaches are invited to attend a breakout session where MSU coaches will be available for chalk talks and dinner will be provided.
The coaches' clinic is $35 per person. For more information, or to register, please contact Kevin Cahill at (270) 809-6825 or at kevin.cahill@murraystate.edu.
Murray State will open its 2007 season on Aug. 30 when the team travels to Louisville, Ky., to face the University of Louisville at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.
