Football Adds One To 2007 Recruiting Class

Head Coach Matt Griffin recently announced that Tyler Barrett has signed a national letter of intent to play football at Murray State University. Barrett, a defensive lineman from Clinton, Miss., will join the Racer program in the fall.

Barrett joins a group of 19 players that signed National Letters of Intent on Feb. 7. The entire group now includes 19 high school players and one junior college transfer.

MSU will open spring practice on March 26 and will hold its annual spring game on April 21 at 12 p.m., on the Murray State practice field.

Murray State will open its 2007 season on Aug. 30 when the team travels to Louisville, Ky., to face the University of Louisville at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.

Tyler Barrett, 6-1, 265, DL, Clinton, Miss. (Clinton HS) Barrett lettered three years at Clinton High School and helped the Arrows reach the playoffs two times in three years. He led CHS to a 9-4 record his senior season. Barrett earned the Arrow Award, which is presented to the team's strongest player, as a junior and a senior. He was twice named defensive player of the week. Barrett also lettered in track and power lifting, finishing fourth in the state his junior year. Barrett's grandfather Johnny Brewer, a member of the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame, played football at Ole Miss and in the NFL for the Browns and Saints. He helped the Browns capture the 1964 NFL Championship and earned Pro Bowl honors in 1966.
