Murray State Football Spring Report: Practice #4
3/31/2007 5:00:00 AM | Football
A full scrimmage highlighted
“The kids played hard today and made some good plays on both sides of the ball,” said Murray State Head Coach
The offense jumped out to a fast start scoring on both of their first two possessions but the defense regrouped and held the offense out of the end zone the remainder of the scrimmage.
On the first play of the scrimmage quarterback Jeff Ehrhardt scrambled for 15 yards. A few plays later Josh Jones broke loose down the right sideline for a 30-yard run. On the next play Jones caught a pass from Ehrhardt in the back field and rumbled 19 yards down to the one yard line.
Jones finished off the drive with a run up the middle for a touchdown.
On the next offensive possession, quarterback Zach Barnard hooked up with DeAngelo Nelson for 10 yards. Charlie Jordan gained 20 yards and 15 yards on back-to-back carries to move the ball down to the 15 yard line.
“Our tailbacks played well today,” said offensive coordinator
Barnard made the offense two-for-two when he rolled to his right and found tight end Ben Rush for a 15-yard touchdown pass.
After allowing two touchdowns to start the scrimmage, the Racer defense turned it up a notch and began to take control.
The defense got a good rush on the quarterback and knocked down a pass attempt to stop the offense on downs. On the next possession Tyler Sinclair recovered a fumble that halted another offensive drive.
The offense sustained several drives throughout the remainder of the scrimmage but the defense did not allow a score.
“We started off a little slow and then started to respond,” said defensive coordinator
Senior cornerback Derrick Parrott picked off a pass and returned it 75 yards for a touchdown.
The scrimmage ended when Bruce McCurdy picked up a fumble and returned it 40 yards.
